Barking In the Car

Mr. J asks:

My pup wants to go for car rides than barks the majority of the time. Any suggestions?

Mother:

Oh boy does this sound familiar. Let's hope we get some suggestions from all our friends since I deal with the same issues. Edward adores the car. He wants to get into every car for a ride. He barks nonstop until I try over and over to correct him. I am pretty sure I have tried everything. Suggestions would be wonderful

Feet Licks

Mr. Tim asks:

Does your dogs lick their feet and if so, any preventatives?

Mother:

Yes.

I wipe their feet when they come inside IF the grass is wet or damp.

I have used socks and medicated shampoo foot soaks.

Recognizing the triggers, for me is key in order to avoid the outside area which is the irritant. If Edward and Lily walk in wet or damp grass, the result is foot irritation and at times an infection between their paw pads.

Toys or No Toys

Ms. Jane asks:
Do you leave Lily and Edwards toys and bones on the floor when they are unattended?

Mother:

This question could not have come at a better time. I have always left stuffies on the floor when my pups are unattended since Benny, who passed away, and Lily have never destroyed anything. Now my Edward is a different story. Although he rarely destroys his toys, three times he has been successful in desqueaking them. He has never swallowed a squeaker, he spits it out on the floor and walks away. 

"I accomplished what I set out to do!"

The other day I noticed a stuffie with a small hole. I picked it up to sew and looked inside. It was not a squeaker but a battery operated noise box. 

Would he have eaten what looks like materials to make a bomb! I doubt it.

I do pick up the toys with these devices inside....just in case.

Jerky, Bully Sticks, Rawhide?

Mr. P asks:
Do you prefer to give your pups jerky, bully sticks, rawhide or chews?

Mother:
Honestly...none of the above. Since French Bulldogs mouths are much larger than their throats, they think they could swallow more than they can chew. I had scares with all my Frenchies. I refuse to give them any type of chew with the exception of the bone in the picture. On one instance if I was not at home, Lily would have choked to death. I literally stuck my fingers down here throat and pulled out a piece that was lodged. Antlers are also out of the question since one splintered.

Acupuncture For Dogs

Ms. D asks:
Have you ever tried acupuncture for Lily's back?

Mother:
Although we never have, we did consider it at one time. We have known friends on our blog that have used acupuncture for their dogs and horses. The stories we have heard were all positive.  petMD has more information and a video. We see the treatment as beneficial. What are your thoughts?

Life Jackets

Audra and Zoe ask: 

Where do you buy Lily (and Edwards) life vests?  

I see them online but I'm always unsure of the size for my Frenchie!Thanks!

Mother:

We purchased our life jackets from Chewy.com. Not only are they inexpensive, but they have extra protection. The jackets come with a chin shelf to add more buoyancy for the pups head. We took a size      medium. Lily is a slim 23 lbs, Edward 30 pounds, broad and muscular. 

They both fit fine

Mother: Honestly, we are not sure because we never tried it long term. We need your input
