Water Safety

Friends we are
participating in Safety Week in Blogville
hosted by Sidebite and Sarge

Five Water Safety Tips for Dogs!
VERY IMPORTANT

Did you know that French Bulldogs are one breed that will eventually sink while in water?
We are top heavy, broad, muscular.
Our life jackets have an extra shelf under our chins to keep our heads above water.

From the ASPCA

****Don’t leave pets unsupervised around water—not all dogs are good swimmers.

****Heat from the sun is more intense around water.Watch your dog for signs of sunburn or heat stroke, and keep him off hot sand as it can blister paws.
****Buy your dog a life jacket—and use it. Just like with people, it’s easy for your pup to develop a cramp in her leg, become exhausted too far from shore, or, in rivers or oceans, get overwhelmed by tides.
****Rinse your dog off after swimming to remove chlorine or salt, as well as bacteria or dirt she might pick up from a pond or lake. Be sure to remove wet collars to prevent hot spots.

****Try to keep your dog from drinking pool water, which contains chlorine and other chemicals that can easily cause a bellyache.Water from lakes, ponds and rivers should also be avoided as it often contains nasty parasites that cause vomiting, diarrhea and other health issues.

TRAGEDIES CAN BE PREVENTED!!!!

Even professional surfboarders should be skilled swimmers and
aware of all water dangers.

Peace
Lily & Edward

  1. Excellent water safety tis Lily and Edward...the boys here go simming in the dam...we have harnesses on them and very very long ropes..this way if they tire we can get them...also the things that grow in the dam water at certain times can give the pups a really crook tummy..so we do not encourage them drinking it..we check them for leeches too...it is fun but needs to be safe :) hugs and loves Fozziemum xx

  3. Good tips! Boxers aren't naturally good swimmers either. I feel much more comfortable in my life jacket, even if I'm just splashing in the shallows.

  9. I did not know your breed was prone to sinking, Lily. Wow! That's something new I learned. I too use my lifejacket when we go canoeing...I am not a strong swimmer at all. I don't like to swim either so at least the lifejacket helps keep me afloat and has a handle to scoop me out of the water quickly! Excellent post!

  45. Imma little confused about the salt thing... Why is it bad? Back when I was a kid, when our dogs had ticks and fleas, we would usually take them to the beach for a swim. It's always worked to kill them pesky parasites.
