The Sea Lion Pup

A sad story.........
during mom and Deb's walk they noticed a baby malnourished sea lion sitting right there on a rock......
they knew something was wrong......it was 4:15 p.m.

it was whimpering.....it fell off its comfort zone but found the strength to pull himself back up.
At 4:30 p.m they called seven, yes 7 different places to help. A local sea lion rescue "closed" at 4:30p.m
Mom and Deb just missed them.
 But "closed"?

6:00 p.m.
it was cold...the sun went down...they waited and waited..........no return calls......
the tide was coming in, the baby was shivering..........
they swiftly walked toward every light in hopes
it was someone, a rescue, anyone to help.
The local lifeguards, three rescues, were closed, telling you to log onto their websites
Ugh....so frustrating and sad....
they resorted to calling 9-1-1
at 6:30 p.m. a Sheriff's Officer and a Harbor Patrol Officer arrived.
They pulled the pup way far up on the beach....
Sea World would not come until the morning...
the sea lion rescue would not come until the morning.....

mom and Deb had tears...they thanked the officers for trying to help
goodbye sweet pup....

The next morning at 6:30 a.m Deb ran down
they knew it would be to late.
She flagged down a nice park ranger that dug a hole on the beach about 5 feets deep.
Goodbye sweet pup...

  10. What a sad story. I can't believe none of the rescues set up to help them would not come until morning.

  11. Shame on those organizations that were "closed"-that makes me so angry they were more concerned with their own comfort than saving a life of a baby! Thank you for trying so hard to save the little guy.

  15. That is so sad. Why would a "rescue" place ever be closed????? Thanks for trying to help the poor little pup.

  16. It's very sad when a rescue couldn't take time out of thier evening to help save a poor helpless baby sea lion. Mommy says they shouldn't call themselves a rescue team if they couldn't even bother to show up at the beach (selfish) is what they are. Very Very Sad...

  17. That is just so sad. Kudos to your Mom for trying to help. We had a sick raccoon outside our fence a few weeks ago. Mom was so grateful to our city's police animal control. They came right away and took the raccoon away. We know he had to be put down, but at least they came. RIP,sweet little pup.

  18. That is sad. To think that the people supposedly dedicated to rescuing animals only do it between certain hours. Hope they write a letter to them!!!

  19. We are so sad about the little sea lion.
Why did this have to happen?
Its just not right for everywhere to be closed.
Someone needs to be on call. I am thanking your mom and dad for trying to help. But I know they felt helpless.
Thank you for bring the awareness of this issue to everyones eyes. Its soooo wrong.

  20. That is so typical of these so called 'rescues'. They never do anything until it is too late, it is just the same in UK. We are so sad to read this. At least your mum and dad tried their best.
    Rest in peace, sweet baby.

  27. That must have been terrible! I honestly might have taken it home for the night... we have a strange illness going around and dead seals keep washing up on shore. It does not make our beach trips very pleasant. :(
