What's In A Word

Hi Friends,
we were just thinking. What's in a word besides the alphabets.
Did you ever hear the bipedals say
"You treat me like a dog."
Isn't that suppose to be good?

or
"He is a real bully."  ahhh..exuse me?
or
"It's a dog eats dog world."

How about, "You lucky dog."
Thats cool cause we say that too.
BUT,
"You are going to be in the doghouse."
And what's wrong with our house?
or
"Doggy paddle."
Are those humans making fun of us?
I could probably do the backstroke if I wanted to.
or
"My stomach is growling."  Why don't stomachs meow?
"Its raining cats and dogs." Really? We are the only doggys out here.
I haven't seen not one kitty kat yet.
OR
this is the worse yet...
"She is ugly as a dog ."  OR  "What a dog."
That is down right mean. I think we are purrty cute.
Well, anyway, we were just thinking.
Have a snuggly day.
Burps & gasers,
Benny & Lily

  3. Yeah, what DOES 'dog eat dog' mean, anyway? I don't eat dog; I eat filet mignon. Medium rare, thankyouverymuch!

  9. Hi Ben & Lil,

Yeah. What is up with all those phrases? And what about "dog days of summer". What does that mean exactly. My mom says it has something to do with the dog star, Sirius. All I know is it's been hot as hec here. So we are staying in the house enjoying the AC!

  11. You tell them Benny and Lil! And they wonder why we do the famous head turn when they say these things..
Here are a few more for your list that might technically be true. "Top Dog", because after all, we do love to show off. "Dog Tired", studies show we can sleep 18 hours a day. "She/he is like a dog chewing its bone". Did someone say BONE????

Put it all down to humans - nothing they do makes much sense to us.

  26. So that's why you two always look like you are deep thought...now I understand why! Hee! Hee! I do a lot of thinking too and I have wondered about those very same things myself but no one has given me a straight answer yet! Today, my mom said, "These are the DOG DAYS OF SUMMER", from the looks of her sweaty face (it was in the upper 90's here) I could tell that DOG DAYS are not on mom's TOP 5 LIST! Soooo I hope you get some good answers soon beclaws I am very confused about those mean and rude comments about dogs!

  33. Mmmm, it's very interesting.
We have lots of saying with "DOG" in Japanese too, and almost all of them have negative meanings.

    For example...
we say "Loser dog" for Loser (why does it have to be a dog??)

Hey, dogs always have been, are, and will be human's best friend, and human treat us like this universally!?

Maybe we should make up some words like... "dog smile" means the happieset man in the world!

    Bunta

I love the photos that illustrate the different sayings. well done! :)

  35. Hmmm, you have given us a lot to think about.
It's true, humans do use dog related phrases a lot. Although in our case - we dogs who have blogs - being treated like a dog is pretty good!
Love all the pics, you are lucky dogs to have your own swimming pool.
