A Terrifying Day

Our day started at 4:45 a.m. Every buddy was sleeping when momma heard Lily licking her chops like she was going to throw up.
We ran to the bathroom sink. Just in time, my Lily spit up.
Suddenly..Lily was gagging like she couldn't breathe. I was so scared.
Mom was shaking. She swept Lily's throat with her fingers and pulled out something scary. Lily still couldn't breathe, mom pulled out more. Lily's life was saved.
CAUTION----the picture is purposely BLURRY since it is so so disgusting.
Lily usually does not eat anything she shouldn't. What could this be? It was VERY heavy and contained hair and hard-hard bits of tiny plastic.
At 5:15 a.m we took a car ride to the Urgent Care Clinic because Lil's gums and tongue were pure white. We thought the worse.
I was a nervous wreck. I was worried about my Lily.
Mom saved the monster stuff in a baggie and brought it to the hospital.
Dr. Daniels and the staff were awesome.
They took X-rays and took loads of time explaining everything.
Lil stayed at the hospital til late at night for observation - 6:30 p.m.
We picked her up. I was very concerned but thrilled to see her.
We headed home..thinking and thinking. Ugh huh, it looks like pieces of Nylabone. We did more research on our computer.
We did not find to many bad words regarding Nylabones, but somehow, over time it appears tiny pieces have stayed in Lily's belly. Well, all our Nylabones are in the trash. Lily gets to eat rice and cottage cheese for two days. YummmmmE.
I am so happy Lily is getting better. If mom wasn't home to save her.....
From now on I will block the door so she can't get in. I want to keep my eye on her.
Have a grateful day and take a moment to smell the roses.
Benny & Lily

  1. That was really a terrifying day indeed... glad that Lily is alright now. Lucky mom was there.

    Licks, hero

  2. Oh, I'm sure your mom was scared to death...thank goodness sweet Lily is OK...
    Hugs and belly rubs,

  3. Oh my goodness! This must have been so scary for all of you!! POOR LILY!

I chew on a Nylabone every day. Momma thought it was totally safe. I think we will throw it away now.

Hugs to Lily, and her very worried family. I am so glad that you were there to recognize the problem and act quickly!

  4. That sure was a close call. Your mom is very good to save that icky stuff and figure out what it was.

Weird about the nylabone, though. I thought that the little bits just passed right through. Did you bring your discovery to the vet to investigate?

  5. OMD OMD OMD Poor Lily!! I have NEVER heard of a problem with Nylabones. In fact mom had just bought me 4 new ones for my Easter Basket. She is now going to THROW THEM AWAY!! Darn, I liked those thingys and was looking forward to them. I guess I'll just have to be content with my cow hooves and deer antlers.
I am SOOOOOOO glad that Lily is OK!!! What a scare. THANKS FOR THE WARNING!!!

  6. OH how scary for you and Lily. I have never had one of those bones and wont have one now for sure. Mom watches my bones carefully cuz I have quite the chompers!! Glad that Lily is ok.

  7. So scary!! And our Mom always buys/recommends Nylabones because she thinks they are so safe. Thank you for the warning.

We are so glad that your Mom was home and super-alert.

Guess what? Our peeps used to live on Azuer in Mission Viejo and our human brother and sister still live there (but not in our old house).

    The Rocky Creek Scotties

  8. oh my gosh, just reading that was super scary! i am verreh glad that she is all right.

    xo martine & the kiddlets

  10. On my Cod, what a terrible, terrible scare! I am so glad that Lily is better now.

ps: Guess what? My Mommeh grew up in Mission Viejo and went to high school there. She has a brother that still lives close by in Rancho Santa Margarita.

  11. Oh Benny! How scary!!! Lily was so lucky to have your smart mommy!

As for Nylabones, we don't get them just because we eat them too, and me mom is scared that we might get in the same trouble that Lil did. Not that we ever did though... it would just make our poop rainbow colors! The company says they are digestible, but every now and then a doggie like Lil with have trouble. But, every dog's chemistry is not the same, so that makes since.

Mom DOES buy us those hard white Nylabones that we don't play with too much... well, me muffer does some. Me thinks they would be IMPOSSIBLE to chew through unless you have jaws like MANGO MAN!

    Irish Love,

  12. Whoa, bud!!! Now that's REAL scary!

Glad yer girl is doin' better!

  13. OMD, that is horrible. I am so glad Lilly is OK. Thank goodness you have a clinic near by.

  14. Oh what a SCARE!!!! we are so happy to read that Lily is going to be okay!!!! wet licks

    hey pals

we tagged you in a game ^_^ come over to our bloggie to find out more and learn about the Rules of the game

    have fun

    wet licks

  15. Oh gosh we are happy to hear Lil is okay but it is scary to think what might have happened if she didn't puke up that yucky stuff! We don't get Nylabnones. Mom thinks they look like plastic and she knows I would gnaw little pieces off in no time flat.

  16. What an ordeal!!! I am so glad it had a happy ending. I have never heard anything bad about Nylabones but don't use them because unless it is actual food stuffs, contains food stuffs or is a stuffy Moose is just not interested!I will share this info with other Nylabone users though. Phew so glad your mom woke up so easily. Think if she were a really sound sleeper what a horrible morning it would have been (well even more horrible than it already was). What a scare!

  17. Whoah...that was VERY scary!! We are so glad Lily is alright!!

  18. Oh no that was so frightening to read through
our mommish just sent our nylabones to the toy cemetary that gets picked up once a week so no more for ush. she would totally freak if that was to happen to ush
we are sending lily greatslobbery pibble sugars in hopes that they make her feel better
    pibble sugars and wee wags
    the pittie pack

  19. I was so engulfed in my reading and so upset that when I got to the last photo I BOL so hard! So glad mommy came to the rescue. I'm going to tell all my friends who chew on Nylabones. You may have saved lives by sharing this terrible story. Kisses to sick girlie.

  20. That is sooooo scary! We're thankful that Lily is OK and that your mom took her to the vet's!!!!
Please give her our bestest get well wishes!
    Play bows,

  21. Poor Lily!! Glad she is okay. My guys can not have nylabones either. What a scare!

  22. woah, that is SO SO SCARY! We sure are glad your Mom was there to save her!!

  23. That was scary! I think I will stay away from those!

  24. Woooos! How scary for woo and Lily! I think we do not have any of those because Mum says Scampi eats everything.... Thanks fur the warning though, I am so glad Lily is now ok due to your Moms bravery!
    ~husky kisses~
    -Kira The BeaWootiful

  25. How terribly frightening!!!
I am so, so glad that Lily is okay! These 'curved balls of life' are bad for us dog-owners...we turn to aging at the same rate as our dogs!
Here's wishing Lily a FULL recovery! We're also sending a cyber-hug to Mom!

  26. I thort yu wer goin to say that she had been eetin her own poo. I herd that dogs do that sumtimes. Or is it just poodles? Do non poodle dogs eevn think of poodles as dogs? I always wonderd that, speshly the wuns wiv the silly haircuts...

enyway I hope Lily is better now!

  27. Whoa! That is a scary piece of information. Nylabones are the ONLY think Fergi will even think about playing with, and that's not even playing. We're gonna be keeping a close eye on her ... if she ever starts showing more interest, we're hoping by then she's started taking a liking to some sort of substitute.

Thank you sooo much for sharing this with us ... even if it was a horribly distressing story. We're so glad Lily is okay now.

    On alert,
    Jake (and Fergi)

  28. Oh, my... That made me scared just reading about your frightening wake-up!! Poor Lily, and poor mom - I just can't imagine! I do think Nylabones fall into the "too good to be true" category - they break lots of toofers off too! Since you can't have them anymore, tell your mom to buy you some antlers to chew on - I think they are even better than nylabones, and better for you too :)

    Glad Lily is OK!!

    Brutus the Frenchie

  29. We are thankful that our Mom never got us any Nylabones! She is worried about the Greenies now because she read somewhere that if the doggies eat off the toothbrush part of the greenie, then the stick part could get stuck in the doggie's throat. We are a little worried about that now.

So very happy and glad Lily will be ok and that Mom was on hand to save her!!! HOORAY!!! We did not want our Mom to cry this week. xoxoxo Toby, Ginger, Jeter and Halle

  30. Thank you, merci.. For every buddys thoughtful words. We have been chewing those hard bones for years. Hopefully this is a very isolated incident. But we threw them away in the trash anyhow. Our friends on the French Bulldog Network said they broke a few tooths!

  31. What an awful experience! We're so glad that Lily is ok. Hugs to both of you and your Mom!

  32. We are so glad the Lily is ok. Mom had read somewhere about those bones being bad before.. We are sure glad that they are all in the trash. Benny you keep a good eye on your sister..

    Big Sloppy Kisses
    Gus, Louie and Callie

  33. OMG, what a scary time you've all had! We are so happy to hear the Lily is okay! No more Nylabones for you young lady!

    Love ya lots
    Maggie and Mitch

  34. What a terrible thing to happen to Lily and so lucky that your Mom was there and able to help her. We're very relieved that everything worked out okay for Lily,

    take care
    Clive and the NSLM

  35. OMG! This is really scary to us. We have Nylabones all over our house. It's our favorite thing to chew on. Every once in awhile, Stella will cough while chewing on one. Did the vet say anything about it? We're gonna ask our vet about it.

We're SO GLAD Lily is okay. It must have been beyond scary.

    Shannon and the Gang

  36. Hey Lily and Benny's mom,

  37. YIKES!

    What a khlose one -

Thanks fur sharing and fur taking such great khare of each other -

  38. OMD Lily we were so scared reading your post! Thankfully all is well. Mom took all my nylabones away the before she would help me comment.

We are so very happy that this turned out well and that Lily is on the mend! Benny we are so happy that you were watching out for your sister!

    Hugs and kisses, Tessa

  39. Aww. So glad you're ok, little Lily! And thank you so much for the cautionary tale! I didn't like how Olive's first nylabone disappeared little by little, and now I don't like it even more!!! I often give her carrots and she really likes those to chew on, so I will just try celery and other veggies next time. No more nylabones in our house either!!

  40. That sure was scary!
Glad your Mom was there to help Lily!
I have only one Nylabone. And it has been living in my toy box for almost 4 years! I never liked it... thankfully!
    Take care
    Kisses and hugs

  41. Hi Benny and Lily. I just came over from Pearls blog. How terrible what happened to you Lily. I'm so glad you are OK. We don't get bones anymore cuz we fight over them. Mom heard something about them being unsafe a while ago. I hope you let the company know what happened to you.

  42. Hi Benny and Lily
Thank goodness your mama noticed something was wrong.Thank goodness she thought quick!
I am so happy that you are okay.
Bye bye nylabones is what we say.
We would be soo sad if something ever happened to you or our friends- so thank you for letting us know

  43. We are so glad that you are ok Lily. The Duchess came home tonight and threw away our bones too! Sheesh :(

    Emma Rose

  44. OMG, that's really scary. I did hear something on the news about Nylabones sometimes causing problems. Marge doesn't chew hers enough for it to be an issue.

I'm so glad Lily is okay!

  45. We are SO glad Lil is okay!!!! Thanks so much for the warning and rest up little Lily!

  46. Oh noooo poor Lily! Thank goodness for your mom. We are so glad to hear that Lily is ok and at home now.
We chew a lot of Nylabones... oh no! We've read a few stories of Nylabones being bad, but also some good stories too. I thought the little pieces were supposed to come out when we poop? Well we will be extra careful and thank you for the warning!

  47. OH MY GOODNESS LILY WHAT would we have done without you!!!! OH MAN AM I GLAD YOUR OK!!

    wags and licks

  48. that is super scary! I am so glad she is all right

  49. OH MY What a terrifying night. Hope you feel better Lily.

    Wags and Licks,
    Mollie Jo & Bobo

  50. Hi there!
We just saw a post by Twinkie and read your post. We sure are glad you are ok. We chew on nylabones and we are going to be extra careful now. Hope mom doesn't throw all of ours out, but we will understand if she does.

    Chasing my tale...
